Cadets from West Point Wrestling Team Visit West Point Elementary
Cadets from the U.S. Military Academy wrestling team welcomed students back to West Point Elementary School on Wednesday, Jan. 7, the first day after winter break, spending the morning building connections through games, lesson support and story time in Prekindergarten (PK) classrooms.
The cadets engaged directly with the youngest learners, playing alongside them at free-choice centers, helping with puzzles and blocks, and reading stories that sparked excitement and collaboration.
“It was wonderful to have cadets visit our classroom,” said PK teacher Katherine Toole. “The students enjoyed showing them our free choice centers where they read books, did puzzles, and built structures in our block center.”
Students beamed as they described their favorite moments. “I played playdough with them,” one PK student said. Another added, “They helped me do my puzzle,” while a third proudly declared, “I built a Lego house!”
The visit offered hands-on opportunities for students to practice collaboration, communication and creativity while forging positive relationships between the school and the West Point community.
Experiences like these underscore DoWEA’s commitment to meaningful student engagement, strong community partnerships and authentic learning opportunities across all grade levels.
