Book Club Highlights
2023 -2024 Book CLub
In April to celebrate the Month of the Military Child and School Library Month, WPES offers the Bulldog Book Club. This tradition was created 4 years ago by Information Specialist, Cheryl Johnson. During the Bulldog Book Club, all students in grades kindergarten through 5 read the same book. This year our selected title is A Boy called BAT by Elana K. Arnold. In the story readers are introduced to Bixby Alexander Tam (nicknamed BAT). BAT’s mother is a veterinarian. One evening, she brings home a skunk kit that needs to be cared for temporarily. BAT is immediately taken with the skunk kit and sets out to become the best skunk caretaker ever.
In order to offer this event for our students, partnerships are essential. The PTO has purchased books for teachers and each student in grades kindergarten through 5 and decorated our school in purple (the official color of military children). Teachers have created interactive stations and virtual home and school connections. And volunteers from EFMP guest read from our selected title. These collaborations allow us to offer an amazing event our students will not forget.
